Academy of Art University Makes Splash at New York Fashion Week

Even if you are not the world’s biggest follower of fashion trends, it is likely you have heard of the phenomena known as New York Fashion Week — and if you have tuned in even a little in recent years chances are you have seen an exhibit put together by a graduate/student of the Academy of Art University. When it was all said and done ten recent graduates debuted (or co-debuted) their signature collections on fashion’s biggest stage. Such breathtaking designs on the cutting edge of fashion proved what so many in the industry already know: the Academy of Art University is one of the hottest names in fashion today. As you’ll see, however, art is embraced in many ways at the university — including some you may have not even previously considered.

As a college, the Academy of Art University is a private university in scenic San Fransisco that bolsters over 12,000 students and 22 distinct departments guaranteed to have a fit of some sort for each perspective student. With a breathtaking campus in one of the most artist-friendly cities in America, the Academy of Art University truly lives their motto of: “Built by artists, for artists.” Did you know: in addition to the sprawling urban campus the Academy of Art University operates and runs their own automobile museum. Perhaps the rarest of the cars in the museum is the Pierce Silver Arrow, a breath-taking, futuristic looking car from 1933 of which there are only three in existence today.

But while art is clearly the focal point of the university, it is worth noting that the school also offers a robust athletic program. The “Urban Knights” of Academy of Art University have six men’s sports teams and eight women’s sports teams competiting at the Division II level. The Academy of Art University can take pride in the fact that they are the only art school in the National Collegiate Athletic Association and it is proof of their well-rounded institutional outlook.

As you can see, there is more than to what meets the eye when considering the Academy of Art University. Since its inception in 1929 the Academy of Art University has made a name for itself centered around themes of innovation and always being ready for the next challenge. It is evident with their presence at New York Fashion Week, with their automobile museum, or with their pioneering athletic programs.
