Attraction to the sciences at adolescence, a father who was a dentist by profession, a mother who worked as a professional nurse, are believed by Jennifer Walden to be the factors that led her to choose medicine as a vocation. She observed the work ethic from her parents and the continued administration of care.
She received her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Texas, Austin; her medical doctorate is from the University of Texas at Galveston. Shortly thereafter, Jennifer Walden moved to New York where she received training in aesthetic plastic surgery. She worked under the supervision of well regarded plastic surgeon, Sherrell Aston for a few years prior to returning to her native Austin, Texas. On returning to Austin, Jennifer Walden took some personal time to become a mother and start a family having twin sons. During this time, Walden hired an au pair full-time to assist in nurturing and raising her sons so she could return to her profession.
The team approach to treatment is a vital necessity to Dr. Walden. She feels patients are empowered and validated when given choice regarding procedure, and the 16 staff who work with her know the importance of providing a supportive, comfortable non-judgmental treatment environment. As the metro area accommodate an aging workforce that are highly educated and professional, there is a market for cosmetic surgery.
Dr. Walden is a minority offering aesthetic plastic surgery, and also in being female in a highly male dominated field. Her practice also offers surgical procedures for nose, face, genitalia, and the entire body.
Dr. Walden admits there are obstacles in personal and professional life. These are best addressed by working harder or finding new strategies to overcome them. She also credits those who have mentored her in helping her achieve her current station in life. Moreover, giving back to the community is equally important. In addition to giving constant attention to her practice, Dr. Walden serves on civic boards and professionally with boards including The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Walden spends her free time between service work and family, but subsequently exhibits a fulfilling life.
